Gas temperature and its distribution across the laser tube were calculated from a simple energy equation. The calculations were carried out for CO2 and CO2-He-discharges. The necessary thermal conductivities for CO2-CO- and CO2-He-mixtures were determined for 300K and 400K. Good agreement has been found between the calculated temperatures and the spectroscopically determined values. Comparison of a CO2 and or CO2-He discharge indicates that He does not lower the gas temperature significantly. However, the maximum of laser emission at the P22 line in CO2 is shifted to the P20 line in CO2-He mixtures. Author
