The objective of this study is to analyze a unique universal cell or cell set of logical equivalence and the application of this concept to Large Scale Integration LSI. The study utilizes highly-automated computer techniques on selected logical graphs to generate the Boolean functions representing the logical graphs, and to catalog these functions into discrete classes. A cell set containing one or more function types can then be selected and automatically imposed on the original logic graphs for evaluation. The automated system is set up to allow rapid evaluation of parameter changes such as cell size and number of cell types. A large high-performance machine and a small low performance machine were analyzed, and a cell set was chosen for each machine. Results are shown in terms of cell usage, circuit usage and wiring histograms. Author
