Abstract:

Microbiological and serological investigation confirmed the theory of the epidemiologists as to the source and manner of infection of Q fever--the eating of raw eggs. The fact of the isolation of a strain of rickettsiae from cocks, the shell and shell-membrane of eggs, described in this article, showed that chickens appear to be a possible reservoir of the infective agent of Q fever and that in this actual case their part in the epidemiology of the disease is beyond doubt.
