Abstract:

The aminophosphine sulfides, CF32PSNR2, where R H or CH3, and the halophosphine sulfides, CF32PSX, where X F, Cl, Br, and I, are prepared by heating the corresponding phosphines with sulfur. The chloro and bromo compounds are best prepared by the action of the appropriate hydrogen halide on CF32PS-NMe2, while the fluoride is conveniently obtained by the action of antimony trifluoride on CF32PSBr. When the iodo compound is shaken with mercury, CF32PSPCF32 is formed, while with mercury and hydrogen iodide the product is CF32PSH, formed by an anti-Arbuzov rearrangement. Bistrifluoromethyldithiophosphinic acid, CF32PSSH, is formed by heating sulfur with either CF32PH or CF32PSH. Addition of sulfur to CF3PFNMe2 and PF2NMe2 also gives the corresponding sulfides.
