The cohesive energy of the binary alloy system, Ca-Sr, was calculated from a model based on the Wigner-Seitz model for elemental metals. The cohesive energy is expressed as a function of the volumes of the elemental constituents of the alloy. Numerical solutions were obtained for the enthalpy of mixing and the volume change on alloying under the constraint that the cohesive energy is a minimum at the equilibrium volume. Author
