Abstract:
During the development of the Oceanic Telescope a stress and stability analysis was performed in order 1 to aid in the evaluation of various designs 2 to determine the required buoyancy and cable strengths to meet performance specifications 3 to provide detailed information on the final configuration and 4 to provide load and geometry information at various stages during telescope deployment. The principal tool used in the stress analysis was a computer program called SEASNAKE which produces detailed tension and geometry information for a wide variety of three-dimensional cable configurations and current conditions.
