Abstract:
Copper, shown to be present in significant amounts in monoethanolamine, MEA, scrubber solutions, is an active catalyst for the serious degradation of the amine. Makeup water, drawn from the ships potable water supply, appears to be a major source of this metal. The recommended substitution of battery-grade for potable makeup water would prevent a significant portion of copper intake, and should result in extending the useful life of the solutions. Author
