Abstract:

The derivative of stored beam energy with respect to perveance increases without limit as perveance approaches the critical or limiting value. The possibility of using this phenomenon for noise smoothing is here investigated by computer simulation of such behavior in a model of an infinite planar triode. The effect on both induced anode current and power arriving at the anode are examined. Little effect is noted on injected charge velocity fluctuations, but a marked reduction of injection current fluctuation power is observed. Improvement of over 3db compared with the low-perveance case occurs over a large percentage bandwidth centered approximately on the space-charge-free transit frequency. Author
