Abstract:

A commonly used method for determining particle size in a naturally occurring hydrosol is to use relative scattering values at different wavelengths in conjunction with the Mie theory of light scattering. It is shown that there are at least two regions of ambiguity where identical scattering values will predict different particle sizes. Data are shown to illustrate this point and it is concluded that an additional method must be used to resolve the ambiguity. Author
