A simple, direct method is developed for the determination of the attenuation of a slotted line and for the determination of the electrical degree distance from the load to the tap points of the line. A general least square method is developed to determine the parameters of a standing wave with the attenuation of the line taken into account. These parameters are then used to calculate the impedance of a given load. The formulas developed in the general least square analysis are shown to reduce to those of the least square with no attenuation and the three pin analysis with attenuation. Author
