Abstract:

Phthalate plasticizers based on straight-chain alcohols have gained wide acceptance in poly vinyl chloride PVC compounding in recent years, because in contrast to the branched-chain plasticizers, i.e. dioctyl phthalate DOP and diisodecyl phthalate DIDP, they possess superior low-temperature flexibility and lower volatility. The efficiency of the straight-chain phthalate is also better than that of the branched-chain counterparts. To meet the increasing demand for straight-chain plasticizers new straight-chain alcohol facilities are now on-stream. The intent of this paper is to show how the straight-chain phthalates can be effectively used in electrical PVC compounds. Author
