Abstract:

Gas sampling and mass spectrometric analysis are to be used to determine the composition of RP-1O2 and H2O2 rocket plumes at various locations downstream of the nozzle exit. The exhaust gases will be analyzed for the constituents H2, He, H2O, N2, CO, O2, Ar, and CO2. The mass spectrometer output is to be digitized and reduced by computational methods presented in this report. From the mass spectrometer output voltages one may determine the sample composition in terms of mole fractions, the mass fraction of entrained air, and the mixture ratio of the rocket. Computer codes for the IBM 650, together with block-diagrams and sample calculations, are included as an appendix.
