This report presents a description of the cobalt borosilicate glass gamma dosimetry system used by the US Army Nuclear Defense Laboratory. Cobalt borosilicate glass is an inexpensive, efficient, and reliable passive dosimeter for a range of gamma exposures. The use of energy discrimination shields provides the system with an almost flat photon-energy response from 60 keV to 10 MeV, and thermal neutron shields eliminate 99.9 percent of the thermal neutron fluence. The main problems associated with the system are fast neutron corrections, fading, saturation effects, and variations in plate parameters.
