Expressions for the electromagnetic field components at the interface between the first and second layers of a two-layer conducting earth produced by a horizontal electric dipole antenna have been derived for the quasi-static range. Special attention has been given to the case where 1 the measurement distance is much greater than a skin depth in the upper layer but comparable to a skin depth in the lower layer and 2 the conductivity of the upper layer sigma sub 1 is much greater than the conductivity of the lower layer sigma sub 2. The special cases of 1 a thin layer, 2 a thick layer, and 3 sigma sub 2 sigma sub 1 are also considered. Author
