Judiciously selected derivatives and metal chelates of two classes of phosphorus-nitrogen reagents were prepared and characterized by their physical properties. The compounds are as follows I RO2PNHPOR2 Ia R CH3- Ib R C2H5- Ic R CF3CH3- C2H52PNHPC2H52. The zinc salt of Ib and the zinc, copper, and possibly the iron salts of II have been synthesized. Attempts to synthesize Ia were unsuccessful the only products isolated were the trialkyl and dialkyl derivatives. Compound Ic was isolated in low yield the intermediate, RO2PN POR3, was unusually stable. The metal chelates of Ia and Ib were readily hydrolyzed to lower alkyl derivatives by atmospheric moisture. Compound II was extremely hygroscopic and formed a mono- or sesquihydrate depending upon the environmental humidity. The acidity of compound II is notably lower than that of Ib. Author
