The role of the source function in the balance equations for the electromechanical material continuum, is discussed. From a prototype source equation, being a differential invariant of a tensor potential, Poissons field equation and the Maxwell equations are deduced along a common and single procedure. By means of a representation theory for a second-order, asymmetric tensor, a general type of a constitutive equation for the asymmetric stress is introduced into the plane electromechanical balance equations, and their solution discussed. The appearance of the curvature tensors into the balance equations for the electromechanical continuum with respect to a two-dimensional curved space, is explored towards a survey for their solution.
