The skin-friction law is directly derived from the outer velocity law, avoiding any detailed analysis of velocity profiles or of boundary layer thicknesses. A rough solution of the kinetic-energy integral equation yields the structure of the law, and a critical screening of accurate solutions yields the correct coefficients. The skin-friction law so derived describes the stagnation-point flow, very well the pressure minimum flow, perfectly the setting of separation, accurately the crossing of separation, realistically. Slightly modified, it also describes the similar flows and evidences the deep difference between similar and nonsimilar separation. Author
