A semimicro spectrophotometric method is proposed for the determination of RDX and HMX whereby up to 11 mg of these compounds is hydrolyzed by evaporating to dryness with 5 ml of sodium hydroxide solution 2.5, the salts are dissolved in 10 to 3 sulfuric acid, a solution of ferrous sulfate solution in 10 to 3 sulfuric acid is added, and the pink color is determined. The method is recommended for the determination of RDX and HMX in compositions containing less than 20 of these compounds. Author
