The effect of root secretions has been studied largely with relation to herbaceous vegetation both negative and positive effects were pointed out. In silviculture considerable attention is being given to this problem in cultivating mixed plantations. Studies were made of the interaction of root secretions of oak, black locust, little-leaf elm, wild pear and apricot. Root secretions were obtained in sand and water cultures.
