Abstract:

In the preparation of liquid media containing Andrades indicator it is necessary to establish the pH of the peptone water at 6.6-7.0 prior to the addition of the indicator, and at 7.0-7.4 after the addition of the indicator. The differences of opinion of the separate authors, concerning the number of carbohydrates fermentable and the times of fermentation by Listeria, are, together with a possible variability of the strains, related to the method of preparation and the quality of the nutrient media.
