Abstract:

Zirconia specimens made with the addition of 11 mol. of CeO2 exhibit small thermal expansion and the high thermal stability. Increasing the amount of stabilizing cerium dioxide additive further, to 15 and 28 mol., lowers the thermal properties of the mixes. Yttrium oxide can also be used as a stabilizing additive to zirconium dioxide. Welts appeared on specimens made from these mixes after 11 heat cycles, and they failed at the 25th heat cycle. The highest thermal stability was found in those mixes in which the zirconium dioxide was represented after stabilization not only by the cubic, but also by the monoclinic modification. A secondary additive of monoclinic ZrO2 also improves the properties of specimens. A recipe and method for preparation of refractory products from zirconium dioxide are proposed. Author
