This report discusses a fundamental principle of operation for an interface which is conceived to increase the effectiveness of the designer of discrete element systems. The interface, implemented in a small computer with interactive graphic capabilities operating as a satellite of a large central computer, has been built and used. The initial results are discussed and open problems for future work are listed. The appendices include a Users Guide, examples, and details of implementation. Author
