Abstract:
Parotid fluid was collected from 104 healthy young adults in an effort to ascertain the correlation between blood pressure and parotid flow rate. In one experiment collections were made without exogenous stimulants from 50 subjects classified as either fast or slow secretors. Each of 54 additional subjects provided unstimulated parotid fluid, and three samples were collected with gustatory stimulants. The rate of parotid gland function was invariably independent of blood pressure, regardless of the elicitation procedure employed. Author
