This work is a continuation of earlier papers by the author where similar results are achieved for the values q 7 and 8. By generalizing and extending the techniques developed in the two earlier works the diaphantine equation y squared 29 to the kth power 7 is shown to have no solution in integers for k 2. Since this is a necessary condition for the existence of close-packed double error correcting codes on q 9 symbols, there exist no such codes. Author
