Abstract:
A natural balloon model was tested which demonstrates the size, shape, and superpressure associated with the balloon as it ascends to an altitude of 100,000 feet. The results of the test verify theoretical calculations of the balloon parameters and establish that a top loading system will provide reefing of excess material and superpressure as predicted. Test results also indicate that symmetry of the balloon about a vertical axis is not maintained by the natural forces which occur. Recommendation of steps which will improve the symmetry are discussed. Author
