Abstract:
It appears that existing computer programs will accurately predict the bandwidths and gains of klystron amplifiers designed for rather wide 2 electronic bandwidths. Further, it appears that ordinary filter theory is satisfactory for predicting the output circuits characteristics. With these two capabilities in hand, it is clear that one can do a good job of designing various broadband klystron amplifiers on paper. An 8-kW cw klystron amplifier was designed to operate at 8 GHz with an electronic bandwidth of 150 MHz, an efficiency greater than 35, and a drive power requirement of less than 3 watts. Author
