Abstract:

The transmission of a blast environment from the exterior of a chamber into the interior is discussed in terms of the aerodynamic mechanisms of the transmission process. The transmission process was divided into these parts 1 the entrance and expansion of the incident shock wave into and through the chamber 2 the flow into the chamber developed by the pressure differential across any openings to the exterior and 3 the filling of the chamber by the inflow. A computerized method for predicting the pressure-time profile of the filling process is presented. The methods described were applied to a hypothetical structure and the results are applied to evaluating the methods and comments presented in the discussion. Author
