Abstract:
An experiment was conducted by the United States Army Nuclear Defense Laboratory USANDL at the Harry Diamond Laboratories Diamond Ordnance Radiation Facility DORF to evaluate the performance of the following gamma dosimeters Silver-activated metaphosphate glass rods and plates, cobalt-activated borosilicate glass plates, manganese-activated calcium fluoride thermoluminescent dosimetry, and lithium fluoride thermoluminescent dosimetry. The radiation source was a nuclear reactor which provided a mixed radiation environment similar to that of a nuclear weapon test with greater control of geometry than is possible in a field experiment. It was also possible to vary the gamma-to-neutron ratio by a factor of approximately 10. Author
