Abstract:

A description is given of an experimental setup producing argon pulsed arcs at pressures up to 10 to the 8th power newtonsq m with currents up to 50 ka, and a pulse duration on the order of .001 sec. Argon plasmas with densities on the order of 10 to the 20th powercc and temperatures on the order of 40,000K are obtained on the setup.
