Abstract:
Conductances as a function of pressure at 30C were measured for the following systems tetra-iso-amylammonium picrate in diethyl ether, benzene and anisole sodium bromide, tetramethyl ammonium bromide, tetrabutyl ammonium bromide and tetrabutyl ammonium tetraphenylboride in methanol and in ethanol. The pressure range extended to 5000 atmospheres except for benzene, which freezes under a pressure of about 750 atmospheres. Densities and dielectric constants under pressure were measured for toluene, o-xylene, p-xylene, cumene, diethyl ether, di-n-propyl ether, anisole, n-butyl chloride, chlorobenzene, 1,1-dichlorethane, 1,2-dichloroethane, and 1,2-dibromoethane. Viscosities under pressure were measured for n-propyl ether, diethyl ether, isopropanol, cumene, n-butyl chloride and 1,2-dichloroethane. Apparatus and methods for measuring conductance, dielectric constant, density and viscosity under high pressure are described. Author
