Abstract:
A method for the prediction of the total intake commitments of 137Cs, 131I and 90Sr from milk by average members of a human population following a short term deposition of radioactive fallout on pasture is presented. The method is shown to be independent of level of pasture contamination, solubility of radionuclides in the fallout, and dietary factors such as level of stable calcium in the ration of the cows. The approach is tested with multiple-dose feedings of radionuclides to cows. The effectiveness of removing cows from contaminated feeds and of limiting intake of contaminated milk by humans is presented. Author
