Abstract:
The outline of this report will follow, approximately, the functional evolution of control systems. This functional evolution will be traced through the following steps a Linear controls, i.e., controls that perform linear operations upon the input signal. The transformed input signal then becomes the output signal. b Nonlinear controls, i.e., controls that perform nonlinear operations upon the input signal. c Preprogrammed modification of the control system parameters that operate on the input signal to produce the desired output. d Learning systems that modify their own control parameters as a result of experience. e Self-organizing systems that do not operate on the input signals but rather evaluate them and generate output signals based on this evaluation.
