Intact and thyroidectomized growing rats were treated daily for 60 days with thyroxine, potassium iodide, sodium fluoride, or NF3O, an oxidizing substance. Results indicated that treatment with NaF or NF3O at doses which were molar equivalents with respect to fluoride to a thyrotoxic dose of iodide had no effect on thyroid function measured by growth rate, 131 I-uptake, and adrenal weight. A sparing effect of thyroid on NF3O toxicity was suggested.
