BIOCHEMICAL MUTANTS OF YEAST CELLS WITH IMPAIRED OXIDATION,
ARMY BIOLOGICAL LABS FREDERICK MD
Pagination or Media Count:
Under the influence of trypafavine, camphor, and ultroviolet light, yeast cells produce biochemical mutants with impaired oxidation. This impairment of the oxidation apparatus is regularly transmitted to succeeding generations and is retained in the course of subculturing over a period of many months. An attempt was made to develop a method for specific coloration of colonies, in order to distinguish the mutant colonies, by their color, from the colonies of normal forms surrounding them. The best results were obtained with the leuco base of methylene blue.
