Abstract:
Measurements of the neutron angular flux spectrum from a near-fission point source in infinite water were made to provide a standard of comparison for neutron penetration calculations. The spectrum from 0.002 eV to 15 MeV was measured with a typical accuracy of plus or minus 20 and a resolution of plus or minus 5 at angles from 0 degrees to 90 degrees and radii out to 38.1 cm. In addition, dieaway and foil traverse measurements were made. Measurements were compared with preliminary discrete-ordinates calculations with moderately good agreement in the fast neutron spectrum. Additional work is required to calculate the low energy flux correctly. Author
