Abstract:

Three different design approaches to achieve a broadband, low-loss, and well-matched TE sub 10 rectangular to TE sub 01 circular waveguide transducer for millimeter wavelengths were investigated. A model of each type was fabricated and tested. Construction details are given, and test results on each model are discussed. A design was achieved that provides a 20 percent bandwidth over the frequency range 31 to 38 GHz. Spurious unwanted modes are suppressed to give a mode purity in excess of 20 dB. Maximum VSWR values do not exceed 1.18. The insertion loss was found to be higher than desired however, it is believed this could be reduced by the utilization of a one piece mandrel in the electroforming process. Author
