Abstract:

Quality control vibration tests of missileborne electrical and electronic equipment are an additional quality control tool for the purpose of exposing assembly defects or sub-standard components which may not be detected by normal inspection means. The first phase of testing used the existing sine wave vibration equipment. The tested items of equipment were, in most cases, powered and operating, but were not specially instrumented to detect malfunctioning during the vibration tests. The second phase of testing incorporated operation and instrumentation of each component during vibration. In order to minimize the amount of testing equipment a decision was made to utilize simple, inexpensive mechanical vibration machines which could be incorporated in the final acceptance testing sections of the production lines. The task of design and development of the quality control vibration machine was assigned to the engineering test laboratories.
