Abstract:
Major accomplishments include the writing of a fundamental paper on optical system optimization and the development of a transcoherence theory for intensity as well as for fields. An experimental program was initiated. An optical system was simulated by a computer. Arbitrary aperture size, shape, and amplitude and phase shading can be introduced into the computer, which generates the corresponding far-field pattern i.e., image. The image may then be read out andor photographed. The improvement achieved by transcoherence-function maximization can then be shown experimentally as well as theoretically. Author
