Abstract:
The reaction of dioxygen difluoride O2F2 with perfluoropropylene C3F6 was shown to produce two new OOF compounds, CF3CF2CF2OOF and CF3CFOOFCF3. It appears that the OOF radical is transferred to carbon to produce these new compounds, which have been structurally characterized by F19 NMR and infrared spectroscopy and molecular-weight determinations. A large effort was expended in attempting to separate these isomers, but with no success. The reaction of oxygen fluoride O2F with nitrogen tetroxide N2O4 at low temperatures yielded nitrosyl fluoride FNO, nitryl fluoride FNO2, and nitroxy fluoride FONO2. However, it is not certain that FONO2 was formed by oxyfluorination, since it was also obtained from the reaction of fluorine F2 with N2O4. FONO2 was also produced during the fluorination of sodium nitrite NaNO2 and of potassium nitrate KNO3. The F19 NMR spectrum of FONO2 exhibited a singlet at -200 ppm, relative to trichlorofluoromethane CCl3F. Author
