Abstract:
The AFCRL airborne ionosonde program, and the completion of development and construction of equipment for the production of oblique-path ionograms for studying travelling ionospheric disturbances. This equipment was installed and operated in a three-station network based at Hanover, N.H., and the analysis of observations made with the network is described in a graduate student thesis which is incorporated here-in by reference. A comparison of the observations with simultaneous observations on a three-frequency, PPI display, backscatter sounder, also located at Hanover, N.H., is described in a second graduate student thesis which is also incorporated here-in by reference. The development of a new vertical-incidence, sweep-frequency ionosonde capable of continuous, unattended operation is described. Author
