Approximately 22 months after the conceptual design of the DODGE cameras the first color pictures of the full disk of the earth were transmitted to earth. In some ways the evolution of the design of the cameras is as interesting as the photographs they produced. It is the authors purpose, not only to document the final design, but also to lend the reader some insight into the motivation for making certain design decisions. In an effort to attain this goal, alternatives that were not implemented for one reason or another are discussed as well as possibilities for future improvements. Author
