The book defines cybernetics as the science of the identification, organization, and most effective control of complex dynamic systems. The basic idea presented is that a new theory of large cybernetic systems must be developed on the basis of the theory of combined automatic control systems, which combine open-loop disturbance coupling and feedback with respect to internal and output variables, the feedback always containing elements of self-organization. Consequently, the theory of combined control systems may be the basis for the development of the general theory of combined deterministic-self-organizing cybernetic systems. First and second chapters present the theory of combined systems of the conventional type. The remaining chapters are devoted to combined cybernetic systems, in which the deterministic part is supplemented by a self-learning corrector. Three types of correctors are considered in separate chapters. First such type of corrector is the nonsearching regression extremal regulator. Second type of corrector is the setpoint accumulating matrix. Third type of corrector is entitled control of spontaneous processes, recognition system. This last mentioned process is considered the most important problem for the future of cybernetics. The authors approach is cybernetics begins where the possibility of mathematical description ends.
