Abstract:
The synthesis of lumped passive n-ports is presented under a new point of view. The initial datum is a bounded-real rational matrix Sp, representing a scattering matrix description of an n-port. When all reactances are removed, with the concurrent creation of additional ports, the residual network is frequency-independent. A description of this residual network can be obtained, and special techniques are developed for this purpose. In particular, the case is treated when the synthesis employs the minimum number of reactances. A new characterization of this number is presented, as the rank of a constant Hankel matrix. The problem of equivalence is treated as the description of all residual networks. Next, the nonminimal synthesis is considered, and finally, some results are presented on the synthesis of non-reciprocal networks, with the minimum number of gyrators. Author
