Abstract:
The report reviews the fundamental factors associated with the maneuverability flying qualities and gust response riding qualities problems in low-altitude high-speed flight from rigid-body considerations. The implications of various potential solutions from the viewpoint of improving the low-altitude high-speed characteristics of both current and future aircraft are indicated. The results pertain primarily to relatively small, high-load-factor aircraft. For large aircraft, the results are also relevant but consideration must be given to the structural dynamic aspects.
