Abstract:

The Fock equations are simplified by substituting simpler expressions for the exchange terms using the Fock theory of the classical analog of the operator of electrostatic interaction of exchange type and the virial theorem. Equations simplified in this manner are solved for the ground configuration of beryllium. A semi-empirical substitute is formulated for the exchange terms and also verified using this example. Wave functions, obtained by the methods referred to, are compared to the solutions to the exact Fock equations and also to the corresponding solutions to the Hartree equations. Author
