Abstract:

The paper describes the growth of human factors engineering and shows how it is applied in designing combat vehicles, by giving examples of work performed at the U. S. Army Human Engineering Laboratories HEL, Aberdeen Proving Ground, Md. It traces the efforts on two types of vehicles -- tanks and armored personnel carriers. However, these selected examples do not detail the total human factors effort on combat vehicle programs.
