Abstract:

The azimuth to a gun probe launcher position from an acoustic array located approximately six miles distant was determined from the acoustic data associated with a series of seven firings. Application of a meteorological correction technique using rawinsonde data indicates that the azimuth may be corrected up to forty percent of the total error if the rawinsonde sounding is taken at the time of firing and decreases from that value at a rate which is a function of the stability of the air mass involved.
