Abstract:

The report extends one aspect of plasma kinetic theory to include relativistic effects. Specifically, relativistic modifications of the electrical conductivity are studied using a covariant form of the Boltzmann equation. The electrons are assumed to undergo Coulomb collisions with the ions. Electron-electron collisions and Compton scattering are ignored. The dynamic effects produced by an external magnetic field are included, but the important modifications resulting from cyclotron emission are neglected. The plasma is assumed to be tenuous so that collective effects are ignorable. Author
