Nonlinear long waves in a rotating fluid supported by a cylindrical wall are studied. Periodic waves of permanent, cnoidal shape are found near certain critical angular velocities both in the case where the fluid is outside the cylinder and in that where it is inside the cylinder. To exhibit clearly how such waves depend on the rotation and surface curvature, the analysis concentrates on the case of a homogeneous incompressible fluid with a free surface. Author
