The force characteristics of a two-dimensional, supercavitating, flapped flat-plate hydrofoil with a slot near the flap hinge were analyzed by means of a first-order perturbation theory. The mathematical problem was shown to have several physically plausible solutions depending on the selection of boundary conditions. The lift coefficient was calculated for several boundary conditions. Large discrepancies among the different solutions were noted. In some instances the slot increased in lift, while for most others the slot served to reduce the lift. Author
